Compact powerhouse

The ZAUGG Snowbeast is a snowblower with a 58 horsepower output. The “Beast” has two vertically stacked augers measuring up to 1.3 m wide, which can clear a massive 400 tons of snow per hour. Even at this output, it is only 110 cm tall, 290 cm long, and weighs in at a relatively light 1,500 kg. Thanks to the ergonomic two-lever joystick control, learning to handle the machine is easy. This makes the ZAUGG Snowbeast ideal for use at ski resorts and even at high-altitude research stations. This video shows you how the machine works and the spectacular fun parks it can create.

The powerful heart of the snowblower

It’s no wonder that the engine also has to be particularly powerful to achieve these results. “Hatz gave us the opportunity to install the stage V three-cylinder 3H50TICD, which was new at the time, in a prototype. The power it provided at such a compact size really impressed us,” says Hansueli Blatter, head of engineering at ZAUGG. ZAUGG has been working closely with Hatz for many years through the Swiss representative HWAG.

Demanding challenge

The Hatz 3H50TICD performs multiple roles in the Snowbeast. The main drive of the engine drives the augers to ensure that the machine can provide the enormous clearing power of 400 tons. But the power takeoffs from the engine are also very important in this vehicle concept. On the one hand, they ensure that the drive’s hydraulic pumps are running, and on the other hand, they also supply the functional hydraulic system with the appropriate power. This affects, for instance, the adjustment of the augers and the chute (also shown in the video) through which the snow is ejected. “The engine allows us to use all the functions with high power and ease. It’s optimal for our use case that we can operate the pumps on the power takeoffs with up to 100 Nm,” says Hansueli Blatter with satisfaction.

Innovative technology makes the difference

And last but not least, the technological features from Hatz were a crucial factor in the choice of engine. “The control of the three-cylinder engine allows the rotational speed to be adjusted depending on the operating status of the machine. This ensures low fuel consumption and low emissions, which is good news for both the machine operator and the environment. In addition, Hatz also offered us the appropriate display so the operator can call up information and change the motor’s settings. That makes the design of the machine much easier for us,” says Blatter.

The ZAUGG Snowbeast is powerful, innovative, environmentally friendly, and optimally designed for the needs of the operator, as is the Hatz 3H50TICD. This makes them the perfect combination for perfectly cleared snow.
