Year-round use on outdoor surfaces — from sweeping and wet cleaning to weed management and snow removal — places significant demands on both operator and machine.

This means that nimble utility vehicles are required to properly maintain confined pedestrian and downtown zones. There needs to be enough power to drive a wide variety of attachments. When properly equipped, these multitaskers perform their duties as sweeping, mowing and gritting vehicles for municipalities, service providers and industrial manufacturers.

So it should come as no surprise that a four-cylinder from our company was chosen as the engine for Hako’s multipurpose Citymaster 1650 Implement Carrier. The device is described thus by Dr. Olaf Heinemann, Product Manager for Citymaster Municipal Technology at Hako: “The Citymaster 1650 is an articulated, multifunctional exterior cleaning machine in the 3.5-t class. It has a quick-change system that makes attachment swapping simple and tool-free. For every seasonal challenge—snow removal, green space maintenance, or wet cleaning of highly soiled areas—the vehicle can be outfitted with a number of attachments.” 

The Citymaster boasts the smallest turning radius in its class and can be operated comfortably even in narrow spaces thanks to articulated steering and an incredibly small body. With permanent all-wheel drive, nothing — even inclement weather — gets in its way.

Our engines are among our many products known for their robustness. Hako was on the lookout for a 55kW engine that would work flawlessly with the Citymaster’s small-body design. And they found what they were looking for in the four-cylinder 4H50TICD, as Dr. Heinemann explains: “The four-cylinder from Hatz is compact and lightweight, and it fits in our Citymaster’s extremely small engine compartment. Hatz engines are also known for their durability. We offer our customers fail-safe machines. And the engine is one of the key components.” Sustainability is also important — even indispensable — for the Citymaster, since it is increasingly used in inner-city areas. The Hatz 4H50TICD meets current emission standards for Stage V industrial engines and is also fuel-efficient in operation. Factors that are crucial for Hako, but more importantly for machine operators.
