Excavators, wheel loaders and cranes are often the first things you think of when it comes to equipment for construction or restoration work. But there are a lot of jobs on construction and civil engineering sites involving gardening, landscaping, or road construction that require more portable and specialized machines such as floor saws or drill jumbos. Cedima from Celle, Lower Saxony, specializes in precisely this kind of construction machinery and equipment. An amazing variety of Cedima machines have been using Hatz diesel engines for decades. And these machines help keep construction sites running as precisely and efficiently as possible.
Take road construction, for example: The small, specialized machines help ensure an economical use of resources and—more importantly—reduce construction time when roads are being laid or renovated. Drill jumbos, for example, are used for what’s known as core drilling. This involves things like taking subsoil samples so that the subsurface structure can be precisely analyzed. The creation of boreholes to support underfloor lighting on airport runways is another important use.
These specialized core drilling tools come in a wide range of sizes and styles. The drill jumbos from Cedima can be hauled as vehicle trailers to the building site, and some models can even be moved there independently. Drilling asphalt or concrete demands a lot of power. The BW-400, BW-443 and BW-445 drill jumbos get that power from a Hatz Diesel from the 2G series. The 15.5kW drive can be used to drill holes of up to 60cm diameter.
CEDIMA floor saws are used just about everywhere, from industrial floor repair to road and highway construction. When you’re using diamond saw blades to cut concrete or asphalt floors and roads, they are an essential tool. That’s why even for core drilling, Cedima floor saws deploy the highest-quality diamond tools they produce—and it’s also why they rely on the power of Hatz engines. Five Cedima machines use Ruhstorf one-cylinder to four-cylinder engines with power ratings between 7.2 and 55.4 kW, depending on the size of the floor saws. In addition to the robustness and performance typical of Hatz, they are especially impressive for their low weight and reduced size. This helps with the handling of hand-guided machines, and allows the design of self-propelled machines to be especially compact. It also makes it easier to transport the vehicles to construction sites.
The largest Hatz-powered floor saws, like the Cedima CF-6022, can cut joints up to 48 cm deep in the most solid floor surfaces thanks to their Hatz 4H50TIC four-cylinder engine. On top of that, the Hatz engine has enough power for special tasks like microtrenching. That means digging a trench into the road no wider than 30mm and no deeper than 300mm. Next you lay bare pipes, and then pneumatically insert fiber-optic wires for fast Internet into them. This spares you the effort of “digging up” the road.

Hatz and Cedima have had a strong relationship for many years. As a construction machinery manufacturer, Cedima naturally appreciates our durable and space-saving diesel technology, but they also value our excellent and extensive service network as an engine specialist. That’s no surprise, given that the Hatz service network includes more than 500 service providers worldwide. This means that if the unexpected happens on site, the engine—and the equipment—can be repaired quickly.
Look forward to the next in a series of extraordinary machines with Hatz engines! Or maybe you know something about a spectacular application involving a Hatz?
