Hatz is more than just a vibratory plate or compressor! Did you know that Hatz engines are used in some of the world’s most spectacular and unusual machines? You didn’t? Then allow us to introduce the Husmann Gigant. The Gigant – or giant – is a mobile compaction unit for municipal, recycling, and waste disposal facilities. In other words – it is a mobile rolling and destruction machine. With its enormous, metal-spiked roller, the Gigant shreds just about whatever it can get a grip on.

But behind these scenes of destruction, of course, the Gigant also provides value for operators of municipal facilities, as Wolfgang Muchall of Husmann Umwelt-Technik GmbH explains: “Our Gigant can be deployed in all sorts of helpful ways in the construction yard, but its job not only looks spectacular: it also makes significant contributions to efficiency and sustainability.” This is because the better-compacted the container contents are, the fewer transport trailers are needed to get it to a recycling or storage plant. Or you can look at it from another angle: even more recyclable material can be removed in fewer containers. The Husmann compressor thus saves fuel and emissions. And beyond this, the Gigant can even move containers around the company premises, making it a true all-rounder.

The machine needs real power to be able to take on these brute tasks. And we supply it with our 3H50TICD 3-cylinder diesel engine with 44 kW. Wolfgang Muchall knows the score: “The Hatz engine is compact enough for the tight dimensions of the engine compartment in the rear of the Husmann Gigant, but it’s also efficient, low in emissions, and quiet. With these features, the engine makes work much more enjoyable for the compactor operator – and for everyone else on site, too.” The engine’s standard particle filter – which filters exhaust gases and thus protects the health of employees – also lends a hand in terms of occupational safety.

The Hatz 3H50TICD is an electronically controlled three-cylinder diesel engine with common rail technology. Thanks to the electronic actuator, the speed is variable (2200–2800 rpm) under full load and adapts to the needs of the machine or its current use.  So when the machine is just moving from A to B, the engine calls on less power than when it’s pulling large masses or smashing bulky wooden pallets. With this technology, the engine is perfect for the various requirements at municipal and recycling facilities.

Look forward to the next in a series of extraordinary machines with Hatz engines! Or maybe you know something about a spectacular application involving a Hatz?
