The Hatz D series is known for maximum power and quiet running behavior. The 1D90, for example, is the strongest single-cylinder diesel engine in the world at 11.2 kW. It is true that our D engines are just as renowned for their durability as all other Hatz drives, but for them to stay that way, the engines need a little TLC. To make this as easy as possible, we provide a detailed maintenance plan to help you extend the life of your engine. We have put together an overview of the important maintenance intervals for you here.

If you have read our guide to maintaining the 1B engine, you already know the following: There is an informational sticker on the engine itself that provides a visual summary of all the maintenance intervals and the maintenance that must be performed at each one. If you check this regularly, you will probably not miss any of the most important maintenance tasks. It is also always helpful to take a look at the manual for your 1D engine. It includes the entire maintenance schedule including illustrated instructions starting in chapter 8.

Here is another overview of the maintenance intervals and the corresponding maintenance tasks so that you can check right now whether you have thought of everything your engine needs.

If you have a new engine or one that has been refurbished, you must do the following after the first 25 operating hours:

  • Change the oil.
  • Check and, if necessary, set the tappet clearance.
  • Check the screw connections. When doing so, however, you must not tighten the screws on the cylinder head attachment.

If you do not use your machine very often, you should change the oil at least every 12 months, even if you have not reached 25 operating hours. If, however, you use your Hatz-powered machine on a regular basis, you must check the water separator weekly.

Every 8–15 operating hours, or before startup each day, you must:

  • Check the oil level.
  • Check the air filter maintenance indicator.
  • Check the intake area for combustion air.
  • Check the cooling air area.
  • Check the lower part of the oil bath air filter for the correct oil level and dirt accumulation.

The water separator should be checked weekly.

Every 250 operating hours, you must:

  • Change the oil.
  • Clean the oil bath air filter.
  • Check and set the tappet clearance.
  • Clean the cooling air area.
  • Check the screw connections.

And after 500 operating hours (with the exception of the 1D90E, which requires this after 250 hours), you must:

  • Change the fuel filter.
  • Replace the air filter cartridge.

If you follow these steps, nothing will stand in the way of your engine having a long life. Need proof? Look no further than the BBA drainage pump, of the Hatz 1D engine, which is still going strong after 69,000 operating hours.
